Taking care of the development and popularization of sports, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia strives to get closer to the modern world standards for the promotion of sports in the country.
Sport as a need of every country has a dominant place in the interests of countries and has a great impact on the daily life of young people, especially towards the proper guidance and development of young people, psycho-physical development, their protection from addiction, prostitution, crime and other socio-pathological phenomena.
Taking care of their status in the social and sports life, as a milestone for future development of sports, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia through the Agency for Youth and Sports took care to regulate their status by introducing monetary compensation during 10 months of the year in the amount of 20% of the average salary paid in the previous year. The stimulus of young people of this type will mean a lot for talented sportsmen to survive in the battle to build a professional character and create future national team players who will defend the colors of the country.
With the amendment of the Law on Sports (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia” no. 29/02, 66/04 and 81/08), in Chapter 5-Participants in sports activities, 2 new articles were added, Article 37 -a and 37-b, according to which the acquisition of the sports category – sportsman sports hope is regulated. The Agency for Youth and Sports awards this sports category to sportsmen who achieve results in official national and international competitions for age categories up to 20 years, in Olympic and Paralympic sports, citizens of the Republic of Macedonia.
The conditions for acquiring this type of sports category, as well as the awarding, are regulated by a special bylaw. Pursuant to Article 37-a and 37-b, of the Law on Sports (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia” no. 29/02, 66/04 and 81/08), the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, at a session held on 29.09 .2008, adopts a Decree on the conditions, criteria and the manner of awarding the category of sportsman-sports hope (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia” no. 127/2008 of 9 October 2008). According to Article 6 of this Decree, the body of the state administration responsible for sports affairs determines the annual number of sportsmen to whom it can award the category of sportsman-sports hope, but the number must not be more than 500 scholarships per year.
